We recently started a new project that introduces Japan in comic style; the view of students will help you understand Japan much more! The former one, Kasahara san’s “Bookstore” was stylish, attracting by its art. By the way, I’m interested in gyudon chain. I heard these shops in Japan are something different from which we see in other countries. Let’s have a look!

Today I found a stag beetle in my garden. Japanese are fond of buying and collecting beetles and keeping them as pets. They are particularly fond of stag beetles (in Japanese Kuwagata-mushi). There are many varieties of the stag beetle (39 in Japan alone).

A little while ago I visited this museum near Kamikamo in Kyoto prefecture. There are many artifacts there, amongst them several pieces dating back to the Man'yo era. The Man'yo-shu is the earliest anthology of poetry existent in Japan. It contains about 4,500 Waka in its 20 volumes.

The Naval Battle of Hakodate was fought from 4–10 May 1869, between the remnants of the Tokugawa shogunate navy, consolidated into the armed forces of the rebel Ezo Republic, and the newly formed Imperial Japanese Navy.
