his belfry was constructed in 1685 and the belfry bell is rung every december 31st, 108 times in order to cast away the 108 evil spirits that possess the body.

The Furosato Museum honoring the Ancient Man'yo People!
A little while ago I visited this museum near Kamikamo in Kyoto prefecture. There are many artifacts there, amongst them several pieces dating back to the Man'yo era. The Man'yo-shu is the earliest anthology of poetry existent in Japan. It contains about 4,500 Waka in its 20 volumes.

The Tokugawa shogunate, also known as the Tokugawa bakufu and the Edo bakufu, was a feudal regime of Japan established by Tokugawa Ieyasu and ruled by the shoguns of the Tokugawa family. This period is known as the Edo period and gets its name from the capital city, Edo, which is now called Tokyo, after the name was changed in 1868. The Tokugawa shogunate ruled from Edo Castle from 1603 until 1868, when it was abolished during the Meiji Restoration.

Yaoya Oshichi, literally "greengrocer Oshichi", was a daughter of the greengrocer Tarobei. She lived in the Hongō neighborhood of Edo at the beginning of the Edo period. She attempted to commit arson after falling in love with a boy. This story became the subject of joruri plays. The year of her birth is sometimes given as 1666.

Kitano Tenman-gū is a Shinto shrine in Kamigyō-ku, Kyoto, Japan. It was built in 947, to appease the angry spirit of bureaucrat, scholar and poet Sugawara no Michizane, who had been exiled as a result of political maneuvers of his enemies in the Fujiwara clan.
